Chemical Peel

Chemical Peel

A chemical peel is a skin-resurfacing technique in which a chemical solution is applied to the skin to peel/remove the top layers. The lower layers of skin grow to come back after a chemical peel which gives smoother and more youthful looking skin.

Chemical peels are used to treat acne, fine wrinkles, skin pigmentation like melasma and scars — commonly found on the face.

How is a chemical peel procedure performed?

After cleansing the face, the areas which are highly sensitive like below lower eyelids, angle of mouth, sides of alar of nose are applied with emollient like petroleum jelly. Then the chemical solution is applied softly. During peel application, you may encounter a slight tingling sensation. The time duration for which the solution is kept is controlled by carefully observing the changes in the appearance of your skin and can vary from few seconds to minutes. Certain peels need to stay for longer period on face eg. 4-8 hours depending upon condition of skin and tolerability of the patient.
